holoride

Account Management & VR Apps.

The Product

  1. Holoride is an immersive in-vehicle entertainment system that combines virtual reality (VR) with real-time motion data from a car. It creates interactive experiences, like games or movies, synchronized with the car's movements, providing passengers with a more engaging and entertaining journey.

Challenge

  1. To provide the optimum user experience, by creating a holoride account management app that links the VR platform app with user settings and enables authorisation.

My role

  1. • Research
  2. • Competitor analysis
  3. • Brainstorming
  4. • Information architecture
  5. • Concept design
  6. • Wireframing
  7. • UI design
  8. • Internal presentations
  9. • Design system (inc. style guide)
  10. • Visual design
  11. • Creation of design specification
  12. • Prototyping
  13. • Usability testing

Results

  • We developed a comprehensive holoride experience with the VR app and (a mobile-first) account management app. (myholoride.com) which includes partner app integrations for sign-up, sign-in, VR headset authorization, membership subscriptions, and cryptocurrency wallet support.

Strategic context

  1. This project aimed to establish the account infrastructure that would support long-term platform growth, personalisation, and subscription-based services.

Define

Research & Key Insights

Research into platforms like platforms like Nintendo Switch, Apple ID, Spotify, and Discord revealed that users expect seamless cross-device authentication and minimal setup friction, especially in mobility contexts.

This insight directly enabled us to define key functional requirements for the account management app, and informed our decision to simplify onboarding flows and reduce required input during first-time setup. This led to the creation of the ideal user flow.

Product Strategy

  1. Prioritization

Given the platform’s early stage, we prioritized:

• Frictionless onboarding

Clear account linking between car and mobile

A scalable structure for future subscription and social features.

  1. Advanced features (social logins, deeper personalization) were intentionally designed as modular extensions for future releases.

Ideate

  1. Conceptual Design & Architecture
  2. Following research, I led a design workshop with the team, in order to define key features and align on the project vision. I then created a sitemap, sharing them with the team via Miro.

Design

  1. UX/UI Design
  2. After multiple rounds of wireframing and feedback, I transitioned to UI design in Figma, aligning with the external agency’s style guide for holoride.com. I created additional icons and pictograms to enhance the application's character.

Strategic Trade-offs

We chose to simplify account management features at launch to reduce cognitive load in an automotive context.

Instead of offering extensive customization immediately, we focused on core identity and authentication features to ensure reliability and ease of use.

This allowed faster deployment while keeping the architecture extensible for future iterations.

Build

Once the Figma files were ready, I led handover meetings with developers, finalizing tweaks and breaking down designs into development tasks. Throughout the process, I supported the team with queries and ensured quality implementation across mobile and desktop.

Impact

  1. The account management system established the backbone for:

• Secure VR session authentication.

Future subscription models.

Personalized content experiences.

  1. The modular architecture enables incremental feature releases without requiring structural redesign.

Additional designs

  • VR app UI design
  • Further to the account management app design, I also contributed multiple design iterations for the VR app UI, refining them into launch-ready final designs. Below is a selection of customizable templates, optimized for various in-app scenarios and ready for Unity deployment.

Tools used

  • Pen & paper, Miro, Slack, Google Meet, Illustrator, Evernote, Figma app, Adobe XD, iPhone 12, HTC Vive Flow,8 Bitdo gamepad.
